Old Ezra 7yr Vs. Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond 7yr

This was the first post ever on Whiskey Vs. Whiskey, and as I look back at my older posts I’m wanting to update them now that I’m doing more in-depth write-ups…
Since Old Ezra is most likely sourced from Heaven Hill, these are actually probably the exact same distillate just at different proof points, and likely different barrel locations in the rickhouses. They should both retail in the $40-$45 price range.
Fancy Glencairn cheated and read who the winner was last time, but lets see if I would still rather spend my money on the Lux Row option!

Heaven Hill) $45, 100 proof
-The Nose has ample baking spices backed up by oak, vanilla, caramel, and hint of pecan.
-The Palate is initially brown sugar, then moves into baking spices, and then back to sweet caramel, vanilla, hint of pecan and peanut, and oak.
-The Finish is medium, with some vanilla sweetness that moves into lingering oak and cinnamon spice.
Overall this is a very nice option from Heaven Hill, and noticeably better than the old 6yr BiB.

Old Ezra) $40, 117 proof.
-The Nose is similar, but more cinnamon, also backed up by oak, vanilla, caramel, and peanut brittle.
-The Palate starts out with more cinnamon heat that quickly moves into flavors of oak, vanilla, peanut, hint of fig and anise.
-The Finish is medium-long, with cinnamon, vanilla, and oak.
Overall this is another very tasty, higher proof, option!

VERDICT) Old Ezra 7yr narrowly wins this one again for me. The higher proof agrees with my palate, and that proof brings an extra intensity to the flavors, as well as a little bit more complexity. I would definitely pick up either if you find them at retail, and NEITHER if they are more than $50!
