Starlight Huber’s Rickhouse Select SiB Bourbon Vs. Wild Turkey Rare Breed
I really like this Starlight @gateway_city_whiskey_society pick , and I immediately thought about pitting it against another very solid-value, high-proof bourbon in the $50 price range. Can Starlight keep up with the Wild Turkey bottle who has established street-cred? Fancy Glencairn is a HUGE Indiana Jones fan, so she had to go for the bottle with that sweet sticker! Let’s see if Indiana Jones deserves to be on this bottle of Indiana Bourbon!
Starlight) 118.2 proof. $49, 4yrs old
-The Nose is powerful and inviting with caramel, vanilla, apples, and oak-spice.
-The Palate is very full-flavored and starts with sweet floral vanilla and caramel, but then moves into dark-cherries, black pepper, dark chocolate, and Creme Brulee.
-The Finish is medium-long, and more spicy, with cinnamon, oak char, and dark chocolate.
Overall this one is amazingly complex and refined for being so young, and I really enjoy the sweet to spicy journey it takes you on!
Wild Turkey) 116.8 proof. $49, no age statement.
-The nose to me is overwhelmingly vanilla and spearmint, with some alcohol heat and mild spice.
-The palate opens with brown sugar and vanilla, then some barrel char, and LOTS of vanilla all the way though until the mint starts to come in. I’m also picking up a slight note of liquid-smoke this time around.
-The medium-long finish is more spearmint mixed in with oak, mild spice, and more vanilla sweetness.
Overall I really enjoy this pour, but it is a vanilla-mint bomb without a ton of complexity.
VERDICT) To say that I’m very impressed with @starlight_distillery would be an understatement! This bottle is amazingly good, and I am very excited where this will be in a few more years!! Fancy Glencairn chose a winner, but how could she go wrong with Indiana Jones! Great pick @gateway_city_whiskey_society !!
