Blood Oath Pact No. 6 Vs. Blood Oath Pact No. 7

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I’m always excited to try a new version of this yearly release from Lux Row that is crafted by Master Distiller John Rempe.
Fancy Glencairn loves that pretty blue and gold label on this year’s release. Let’s see which one wins out on flavor!

6) A blend of 3 high-rye bourbons. A 14yr, 8yr, and a 7yr that was aged in Cognac barrels before being blended with the other two. $100, 98.6proof -The Nose is sweet, and dusty, with funky-musty grape and peanuts, along with vanilla and oak. It smells like walking into an old library and I love it! -The Palate is smooth, with vanilla, caramel, orange peel, oak, and a hint of that musty cognac grape. At the end some of the roasted peanut flavors start to appear. -The finish is medium in length, with more musty oak, cognac, and spice. Overall I really enjoy this one. The cognac barrels add just a touch of dusty-funk and fruity complexity without taking over the whiskey.

7) A blend of 3 high-rye bourbons. A 14yr , 8yr, and an 8yr that was finished in Sauternes wine casks before being blended with the other two. $100, 98.6proof
-The Nose starts with some sweet tropical mango and orange notes, plus cinnamon, vanilla, and oak.
-The Palate continues those vanilla tropical notes, and adds grape juice and subtle apricot, but then moves a little bit more spicy with cinnamon and oak.
-The Finish is medium, with that cinnamon turning into milk chocolate, Concord grapes, and some oaky tannins.
Overall this is a really great blend and again, the wine cask finish is subtle, and adds to the complexity rather than dominating.

Verdict) These are both very enjoyable bourbons, with fantastic presentation. I would highly recommend picking up either at retail prices. However, I have to crown a winner, and those incredibly unique, dusty, musty, funky, antique-store/old-library grape notes from Pact 6 are hard to beat.
Fancy is disappointed her preferred color label didn’t win today, but in reality both of these bottles are winners!

What do you guys think of the Blood Oath line!?
