Blanton’s Vs. Four Roses

Today we have a matchup of Single Barrel options that have both been on shelves for many years, but only one of which has become difficult to find due to “Buffalo Trace Mania”.

Let’s see if Blanton’s lives up to the hype, or if you would be better off just buying the always-available Four Roses Single Barrel!

🥃Blanton’s) $69, 93 proof. Buffalo Trace Mashbill #2 (higher rye ~10-12%).
-The Nose starts with very classic bourbon vanilla, caramel, and oak, with hints of orange peel peaking out.
-The Palate opens with a slight initial tartness that quickly turns into charred oak, orange peel, caramel, and vanilla, with a little sweetness. There a hint of cherry cola on the mid-palate.
-The Finish is medium, with black pepper spice, transitioning to vanilla and leather.
⭐️Overall, Blanton’s is a very nice, enjoyable, easy sipper that I like to keep around especially for novice whiskey drinkers.

🥃Four Roses) $49, 100 proof. OBSV recipe (36% rye, V yeast - delicate fruit)
-The Nose is full of cherries, pear, and funky oak, along with some leather, and hints of chocolate.
-The Palate starts sweet, with dark cherry, oak, cinnamon, black pepper and a hint of chocolate.
-The Finish is medium-long, and spicier, with more cinnamon and black pepper, but then tapers off with cherries, vanilla, and oak.
⭐️Overall, this is one of my favorite bottles in its price range.

🏆VERDICT) For my money, I would choose the less expensive, more complex, more fruity, more funky, easily available Four Roses every day. I like Blanton’s, but I find it funny how much people are willing to pay for a uniquely shaped bottle that has good, but not great, whiskey inside…

I’m sure my opinion is not everyone’s today 😜, so let me know what you guys think!!
