Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 3 Vs. Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Cornerstone Rye

IMG_0530.jpeg

These are both very good, 9-11 year aged rye’s that are also both pricey!

Cornerstone) This MK is awesome. It’s 109 proof, and a blend of ryes aged 9-11 years.
The nose is somewhat bourbon-like with vanilla, soft spices, and oak, but there is an additional sour apple funk in there that I really like.
The palate starts soft and oaky, and then the flavor starts to coat your tongue with leather, vanilla, caramel, baking spices, and a hint of bitter orange-peel.
The finish is decent in length with a little heat, mild black pepper, and bitter-sweet tannins. I really enjoy this one. It’s full of flavor and yet soft, without much alcohol burn.

KO) Batch 3 is my favorite so far of the Rye batches. It is 114 proof, and 10yrs old.
The nose is immediately distinctive with loads of vanilla, chocolate, cherry, and funky rye-spice mixed with old oak.
The palate is very full and somewhat oily, with brown-sugar, vanilla, and dark chocolate, and then starts to reveal some spearmint, cinnamon and allspice.
The finish is long and enjoyable with old oak mixed with floral rye-spice, caramel, and a touch of black pepper. Overall a fantastic pour!

VERDICT) I think I’m going to have to give the slight edge to the KO and hand the “Fancy Glencairn” a rare defeat! It just came down to the more unique and complex edge that the KO brings.
However, this is a very close battle. I actually can’t say I regret spending the money on either of these bottles at all, and I can recommend picking either up at retail prices.
