So I’m not sure what made me do this comparison other than the fact that I knew I liked both, are both similar proofs, not too far apart in price, and both nice-looking bottles.
Fancy Glencairn can’t resist the over-the-top fanciness of the Smoke Wagon bottle… Let’s see if that makes her a winner!

Old Ezra) ~ $50, 117proof.
-The Nose starts with ethanol heat, then leather, brown sugar, cinnamon, and corn.
-The Palate also starts hot, but then full flavors appear of oak, vanilla, and dark-fruits like cherry and figs. Maybe a little anise in there as well.
-The finish is fairly long, but somewhat hot with rye-spice and oak, along with vanilla sweetness. A few drops of water does help tame the heat and bring out brighter flavors.
Overall, this is a great barrel proof option for the price, but may be a little hot for those who are not used to BP drams!

Smoke Wagon) $69, 115.4proof. A blend of 4yr-12yr MGP barrels.
-The Nose is instantly inviting and starts with oaky walnut nuttiness, along with bright cinnamon apple, some cherry, and a hint of orange peel.
-The Palate has an oily and smooth mouthfeel. Flavors of cinnamon and brown sugar jump out, but then bright green apple and vanilla develop, and finally biscuits with orange marmalade.
-The Finish is decently long and starts to show some rye-spice, along with butterscotch, and mild oak tannins.
Overall, this is an amazingly good bottle that I honestly have a hard time believing is all MGP.

VERDICT) This is no contest. Fancy comes away with a convincing victory. Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered is one of my favorite pours for under $80 on my shelf right now. It is totally unique, and I cannot commend Aaron @smokewagon enough for this amazing blend. Well done! I think I need to put it up against another of my favorite MGP sourced bottles, Belle Meade Reserve, next!
