Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B520 Vs. C920

This is a nerdy exercise because in reality ANY ECBP is amazing, and you should always buy it when you see it at suggested retail prices ($60). Yes there are slight differences in both proof, and profile, and my tireless job here at WvW is to do the hard work so you know which one to buy if you only have one spot on your shelf!
Fancy Glencairn thinks she will prefer the higher proof of the C920, let’s see if that’s a wise choice!

ECBP-B520) 127.2 Proof:
- The nose is intensely aromatic and complex. There is an initial hint of musty-sour-funk that then reveals oak char and roasted peanuts. Then the strong caramel/vanilla notes take over along with some allspice, and a bit of leather and cherry.
- The palate starts out with a thick, oily mouthfeel, and includes strong caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, and dark cherries, along with some salted peanuts, and allspice.
- The finish is long and sweet, with caramel corn, some black pepper spice, and some slightly drying oak tannins.
Overall this is an amazingly complex, powerful, flavorful pour, and for ECBP, surprisingly smooth, pour.

C920) 132.8 Proof
-This is a quick one because tasting them right now they are remarkably similar. The noses are the same with just a slight bit more sinus-clearing of the C batch.
-The Palate has all the same notes, but is just a little less sweet, a slightly more bitter mid-palate.
-The Finish is very similar but again, slightly less sweet.
Overall this is also an amazing pour, and great for those who prefer proof over sweetness.

VERDICT)
These are obviously very similar, and you can’t go wrong either way. BUT, if you only have room for ONE bottle, and if, like me, you prefer a little more sweetness with your proof, you will prefer the B520. Sadly, Fancy has to concede she fell for the proof and made a mistake here.
B520 continues to be my favorite ECPB yet!!

(BTW, the reviewers on Distiller.com give B520 a 95, and C920 an 86, which I think is insane, they should be 1-2 points difference at most.)

Let me know what you guys think!
