Caribou Crossing Vs. Blanton’s Original

This is a comparison I’ve been asked to do by a few people. It puts Blanton’s against what is often called the “Blanton’s of the North”.
These are both Buffalo Trace products, but Caribou Crossing is sourced from Canada and bottled at BT. Both are Single barrel bottles, and both have fancy stoppers…
Fancy Glencairn shows her preference for American whiskey and chooses Blanton’s. Can the North hand her a loss?

Blanton’s) Mashbill #2 from Buffalo Trace. 93proof. $60
-The Nose starts with very classic bourbon notes of vanilla, caramel, oak, and a hint of tobacco.
-The Palate opens with a slight initial orange citrus tartness that quickly turns into charred oak, caramel, sweet vanilla, and a slight bit more of that orange-peel.
-The Finish is medium in length, and a little more spicy, along with vanilla and leather.
Overall this is an extremely easy-drinking, mellow but still somewhat complex classic bourbon that lives up to the hype AT retail price, but definitely NOT at secondary prices.

Caribou Crossing) Canadian Whiskey. 80proof. $50
-The light nose has notes of weathered oak, leather, vanilla, and burnt-rubber.
-The extremely light palate is fairly pleasant, with flavors of caramel and milk-chocolate, that transitions into light citrus/tropical notes.
-The extremely short finish is basically just light oak.
Overall this is a whiskey that would be good for someone just starting to experience the world of whiskey, but to me is so light on flavor that I find it very unappealing… The packaging is very nice though!

VERDICT) Obviously Blanton’s takes the easy crown here, and Fancy’s anti-Canadian bias gives her a win! I would honestly not buy another bottle of Caribou Crossing, and I ONLY pick up Blanton’s if I see if for less than $70.

What do you guys think? Any Caribou Crossing fans out there??
