Blanton’s Vs. Four Roses
Today we have a matchup of Single Barrel options that have both been on shelves for many years, but only one of which has become difficult to find due to “Buffalo Trace Mania”.
Let’s see if Blanton’s lives up to the hype, or if you would be better off just buying the always-available Four Roses Single Barrel!
Booker’s 2021-02 (Tagalong Batch) Vs. 2021-03 (Bardstown Batch)
Here’s another one of my nerdy batch-comparison posts… I hope this helps someone with purchase decisions!
For those who don’t know, Booker’s releases 3-4 batches each year that are blended from barrels in different parts of the rickhouses.
2021-02 was one of my favorite Booker’s releases ever, let’s see how the newest batch compares!
Blackened x Willett Rye Vs. New Riff Malted Rye
These are both somewhat unique takes on rye with very different price points… Let’s see which one is worth your money today!
Four Roses Limited Edition 2021 Vs 2016-2020
Today we have a battle for the ages! A 6-year vertical of 4R Small Batch Limited Editions to compare… Let’s dive in!
Remus Repeal Reserve: Batch IV (2020) Vs. Batch V (2021)
Today we are matching up this year’s Remus Repeal Reserve to last year’s in order to find out if the new batch is worth your money or not!
Remus is MGP’s own brand of bourbon, and is typically a blend of older barrels of both high-rye, and low-rye bourbons.
I really enjoy the 2020 batch IV… Let’s see how Batch V compares!
Stellum Rye Vs. Barrell Rye Batch 3
Here we have a matchup of two different blended releases from Barrell Craft Spirits.
Stellum is their newer “entry” label - always available bottle, and the Rye Batch 3 is their higher end, single release product.
Let’s see which one is more worth your money!
Riverset Rye Vs. High Plains Rye
Today we have two bottles of rye facing off that I am comparing simply because I bought them at the same time ;)
These are both sourced, both lower proof, and both in an affordable price range.
Fancy Glencairn thinks she is going to like anything Jim Rutledge makes… Let’s dive in!
Rare Breed Rye Vs. Russell’s Reserve SiB Rye
Today we have two bottles from Wild Turkey battling for your money! These are both the same mashbill of 51% Rye, 37% Corn, 12% Malted Barley. They are fairly close in price, and both non-chill filtered. Let’s see which one is more worth your money!
A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength (Batch 1) Vs. Stagg Jr. (Batch 15)
Today we are reviewing a brand new product - Bowman Cask Strength, and putting it up against its closest relative - Stagg Jr.
Bowman is Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1 that has been re-distilled in copper pot stills in Virginia, and then aged in VA’s climate. Stagg Jr. is also Mashbill #1.
Let’s see if Stagg Jr’s new sibling can compete!
Elijah Craig Rye Vs. Old Forester Rye
Today we have a matchup of a newer rye release in the Elijah Craig, and putting it up against one of the standout value rye releases from last year.
These are both in the similar price range.Fancy Glencairn knows how much she likes OF Rye, so she’s sticking with what she knows… Let’s see how Elijah Craig stands up!
Pure Kentucky XO Vs. Baker’s Single Barrel
We’re starting the week out with what I think is a very underrated value bottle, and putting it up against another 107 proof bottle I think is over-priced!
Pure Kentucky is a small-batch Willett product that has drastically changed in the past year or so now that Willett is actually producing it instead of sourcing it.
Baker’s has changed a lot as well with the introduction of the Single Barrel product last year.
Fancy Glencairn is a fan of that fancy Baker’s bottle, let’s see if she can win today!
Eligah Craig Barrel Proof (B520) Vs. Stagg Jr. (Batch 15)
Today we have a rematch from exactly 1yr ago. BUT, we have different batches. This is a matchup between the best ECBP I’ve ever tasted, and the best Stagg Jr. I’ve ever tasted.
I’m excited!
Fancy Glencairn is sticking with the proven Stagg winner… Let’s see if the antlers can prevail today!
Booker’s 2021-02 Vs Stagg Jr. (Batch 15)
As soon as I tasted this newest batch of Booker’s, it instantly reminded me a little of Stagg Jr.
That is not something I’ve every thought with any other batch of Booker’s before… So this could be interesting!
These are (should) both be in the $80 price range, are both very high proof, and both batched releases that can vary in taste a lot batch-to-batch.
Fancy Glencairn knows she is a fan of Stagg… here we go!
John J. Bowman SiB Vs. E.H. Taylor SiB
Here is a cool matchup!
Bowman is supposedly sourced from the same Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1 that makes up EHT. (The almost identical neck bands may be a nod to this ;)
Bowmen then goes through another distillation in Virginia through a copper pot still, and then ages in Virginia.
These are both 100 proof. Fancy Glencairn knows she loves the standby EHT. Let’s see if she finds a new favorite!
Blanton’s Straight From the Barrel Vs. Blanton’s Gold
Today we are comparing the two best expressions of Blanton’s.
Blanton’s is made with Buffalo Trace’s Mashbill #2 (higher rye).
Both are aged 6-8 years, and fairly close in price, but definitely not close in proof!
Fancy Glencairn can’t resist that beautiful gold pony on top. Let’s see if the bling is enough to make a winner today!
E.H. Taylor Small Batch Vs. Pinhook Bourbon Heist
I like putting new craft release up against the old established sought-after standbys to see how they stack up!
Today we have a bottle from Buffalo Trace that is often VERY marked up over retail prices, against a new release from Pinhook.
Fancy Glencairn learned from last time, and she is going with the Pinhook bottle today… Let’s see how she does today!
Three Chord Strange Collaboration Vs. Angel’s Envy Bourbon
*Disclaimer: I was sent this Three Chord bottle for review, but no strings attached. I often don’t post about bottles I’m sent if they are unremarkable, but this one is worth reviewing!
Here we have a battle of two wine barrel “finished” bourbons. They both cost $49, and both should be pretty widely available.
Colonial E.H. Taylor Rye Vs. Frey Ranch Rye
Today we have a matchup of the highly sought-after veteran, Vs the new kid with something to prove! (This post is not in any way sponsored).
These are both 100 proof Bottled in Bond ryes, around the same price, and both in very nice looking packages!
Fancy Glencairn is an OG sort of glass, so she chooses the E.H. Taylor today… Let’s see how the new kid fares!
Blood Oath Pact No. 6 Vs. Blood Oath Pact No. 7
I’m always excited to try a new version of this yearly release from Lux Row that is crafted by Master Distiller John Rempe.
Fancy Glencairn loves that pretty blue and gold label on this year’s release. Let’s see which one wins out on flavor!
Pinhook “Rye’d On Vs. “Hard Rye Guy”
Today we have a matchup between Pinhook rye releases; 2020 Vs 2021.
I loved the first release last year and immediately thought I would be looking forward to watching it as it spent more time in barrels…These have a mashbill of 60% rye, 20% corn, and 20% malted barley. This is contract distilled at Castle and Key, and expertly blended by Sean Josephs.
Let’s see if another year makes a difference!
